Helpful Link

July 8, 2008

I just found this link on Sharon’s blog ‘Just a minute Ago’, it is a link to making many different needlecases. It would be helpful for anyone taking part on the swap on ‘Down—to—-Earth’

A Swap of Photos

June 20, 2008

I took part in a swap, this time photos. It is being run by ‘Nectar and Light’ and there is a different theme each month. For the month of May the topic was ‘burr’. My photo is of the lemon tree early one beautiful Saturday morning, the light is so lovely at that time of the day.

There are some amazing photos in the swap. The theme for June is light; I read the blog recently of a new comer  to Canberra. She finds the clean, wide blue skies a thing of wonder and finds herself standing and looking up. I can remember doing that after we came back to Canberra after living in Boston. There was a brightness and brilliance in the light.

Edited: It was funny this morning driving to school, there was a very heavy fog and it lasted until about 9am. I was wishing that I had my camera with me as the sunshine was breaking through the fog, it  was beautiful.

Sharing

May 22, 2008

Just a post to share some embroidery that I did on Denise’s bag. Denise was my swap partner for the bag swap organised by the ladies from Rhonda’s ‘Down-to-Earth’ blog. I am dreadfully behind on my swap and Denise has been good enough not to get too annoyed with me.

Also wanted to share a drawing that Jess did for her assignment at school. The houses in our area are called ‘Ashgrovians’ because of their very distinctive style.

Bag Swap

May 2, 2008

My shopping bag arrived from Denise in England, it is very beautiful. I will feel very stylish when I go out with it. I will post a picture tonight when I get home from school. I am still working on my one for Denise, hopefully I will finish it this weekend. I started to do an embroidery on it….. that is the hold up.

‘Fraser’ is opened…….

March 22, 2008

Just drove pass the little cafe on the corner and it is opened. It is full, people everywhere. Coffee is on special ……..$2 a takeaway cup. We are going to have breakfast there in the morning so I will take some photos. It adds a little life to the neighborhood.

Kylie a big thank you, I had a lovely surprise waiting for me when I got home from work. The bunny is ever so beautiful, here is a photo of my grand-daughter Abby and my friend Sue looking  at the bunny. Hopefully mine will be there early next week.

I went to a library in-service last Thursday on networking and use of web 2.00 tools. The networking part was great but the web 2.00 did not live up to expectations. A very young girl who obliviously has a lot of knowledge about the web and how to use it was the speaker. Her audience was a great deal older than her and I don’t think that she felt that comfortable but if she had only realised that the major of us love the computer as much as her and just wanted to learn. She breezed through the interesting and I felt the relevant parts far too fast. I was sad as it could have been great but she did give me some interesting ideas to follow and develop.

For those of you that are following Pen’s adventure, here is part of her last e-mail……

‘I went to my first demolition on Friday. It was two huge pits of about 700 mortars, rockets and projectiles. We got a great briefing, then walked in single file down to the pits to see them before they were blown. We left the site and drove 1.5km to the safe area. The donors stayed closer to where the button to the demolition gets pushed, it is like a bunker under the ground. I heard a little pop and thought it was it. When it actually went, I jumped so high and landed in the arms of some of the de-miners - it was really very funny. It was great to see the work of the teams though, it is incredible. ‘

Now I really should go and sew my bunny.

Saturday Night

February 23, 2008

The family is watching old episodes of ‘West Wing’. I have had a busy day, this morning I got all my things organised and went down to the post office. I got my tea cosy away to Mary……..it is on its way Mary. I posted my photo for the photo swap that was organised by Megan at the Scent of Water ( which is a lovely blog). Now, that I enjoyed the swap with Mary so much I am going to take part in an Easter swap, we are to make a bunny and an Easter card. I am really looking forward to do this. The lady that I am going to swap with comes from Wagga, the town that I was born in and grew up in. This helps to make it extra special. I have started to collect photos of bunnies from Frickr & Etsy for inspiration.

Another wet day

February 5, 2008

It has been pouring rain all night and while it is just beautiful to have all this rain, it makes living conditions very sticky. Last night I gave up trying to cope with it and turned the air conditioner on, it made a more comfortable night. Our dams are slowly improving and it was stated on the news last night that they average 28% full, we now have eight months of water. If we had water tanks at the house they would well and truly be filled by now.

I watched TV last night as I was embroidering my tea cosy, it just reinforces why I don’t watch much television any more. There really was not much on after the 7.30 report and I ended up watching a crime show. It was really disturbing and rather scary. I am really glad that my daughter didn’t watch it as she would have had nightmares. I wonder what effect it has on people that watch it all the time? Do we begin to believe that criminal behaviour is the normal way to behave? Does it desensitize? When my other three children were growing up, their TV watching was limited, they had to nominate the TV shows that they wanted to watch and we usually watched them with them.

This is a photo of the beautiful teacosy that Mary send me from Texas. There is a tale attached to my one that I am going to send to Mary. I decided that I was going to knit one and I found a lovely pattern on the internet. I started it while watching the tennis. I got a little way along with it over a couple of days. Then one day I left it sitting on the longue, Molly took a liking to it and the next time I went to knit it was gone. She did a good job on it. I am now sewing one….it might be a bit late Mary.

Friday night

February 1, 2008

I love Friday night, it feels although this week has been very long. I am slowly settling into my new school. There are more people interested in computers at this school, so I have like-minded people to share my love with. The teacher who teaches second grade is extremely good and loves doing computer related things with her kids. At the grand age of seven they know how to blog, make podcasts and voice threads. They could teach me a thing or two.

I have changed a few of the photos on my header bar and I will finish the rest tomorrow. I had a wonderful surprise this afternoon there was a parcel waiting for me, it was my tea cosy swap from Mary in Texas. I will share photos with you in the morning, I am off to bed.
