When we first moved to Queensland i could hear a ‘banging’ in the room just off the kitchen in the middle of the night. I crept down to the kitchen to have a look, my heart was pounding and I was shaking. I didn’t turn any lights on. It took a while for my eyes to get use to the dark. I then could work out a shape sitting on the bench. A possum. The culprit was a possum eating a apple out of the fruit bowl, he had come through the open window.

So nice illustration! Love also the dark background what make great atmosphere.
I totally agree with the comment above. The characters and their expressions are great. These gals look like they would be great animated.
Wow, I can’t imagine finding one in the house!!
How’d you get him to leave?
BTW, great illo too.
Possums are cheeky but tenacious sometimes! How is it going back at school? The primary classes I’ve been in are going all out for the Beijing Olympics. Like your illustration on this post too!
Great illo, really illustrates your story beautifully!
We’ve had the same little midnight visitors, but never inside the house. A neighbor of mine had one get inside, and she had a heck of a time getting him out. How did you coax your little guy back outside?
I love it! think it captures the possums perfectly. you are such a clever mum. so i spent 10 hours in the car today to go to the market! exhausted but this town is in the middle of a rain forrest - so beautiful. lots of love, pen
Oooh, wonderful illo! I had a possum encounter once in our garage. He was a white-faced, scary, ghostly looking thing. Scared the bejeezus out of me! I don’t know what I would have done if I found one in the house.
Sorry to hear you’re feeling a little blue today. My kids are not even fully grown yet, but I know my heart will ache when they leave. I hope you’re able to go back to the good ol’ days again.
Cool illustration on this one Sandra. Possums are such an experience aren’t they?
