It is interesting how my perceived world is working at the moment. I have always had strong respect for the use of energy and many years ago before it was fashionable I was passionate about solar energy and making your home more sustainable. I am not sure whether it is the work that my daughters do for a living, the blogs I read or the shows that I watch but my guilt? factor is growing. Is guilt the right word? Maybe awareness? Yesterday (Sunday) I had to pick up a few things from the supermarket, I went out with the intention of driving three suburbs away because they have really good coffee. Then the guilty thoughts started……the use of fuel, how do I justify driving that far just for coffee and paying more for the groceries ( because it is a small market there with higher prices); so I went to closer market and got the just average coffee. Now if I was really serious I give the driving to get coffee a miss.
There is a new site opened up called stitchin fingers, it is wonderful and there are lots of new groups opening up within the site. So if you love ‘red work’, crazy patchwork, surface embroidery etc there is now a home for you. I joined a group called ‘Take a stitch on Tuesday’, we do our first stitch tomorrow, it is herringbone.

I know what you mean. Petrol is so expensive and a non-renewable resource — but great coffee is one of the true joys of life. A difficult dilemma. Perhaps you could find some other important reason to need a trip in the vicinity of the great coffee place, or maybe buy some of their beans and use them at home.

I love your new blog look, Sandra. “Awareness” is always preferable to guilt. I tend to behave oppositionally when I feel guilty but I can really make positive choices when I turn the guilt around to mindfulness. I don’t even know if the small changes I’m making now will make any difference. Will keep at it though!
Hey gorgeous - still go and grab the coffee! i agree there are simple pleasures and you can cut down in other ways… i love the new look on the website. heh maybe you can ask for suggestion for my blog name. it was a long day today. thinking o you, love pen
You enjoy that trip, and that coffee, guilt free! Life’s too short, and it’s these little pleasures that make our day.I’ve just joined the stitchinfingers network too and am looking forward to some great inspiration and good times. I’m a teacher librarian (not so much of the librarian these days) and although I live in South Australia, I have been to your neck of the woods and loved it. I’ve had such a good time looking through your previous posts. For what it’s worth, I’m not keen on the phone either. There are a few of us around, but not many without a mobile. I haven’t succumbed yet, much to my family’s disgust. And remember, as Kate says “great coffee is one of the true joys of life.” I’d travel the distance.
